Bombers Get Back to Their Winning Ways

Victoria, TX (June 19, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers held on to win a thriller in Victoria, beating the Texas Collegiate League leading Generals 3-2. The Bombers used excellent pitching and timely hitting to outlast their foe.

Levi Saenz was outstanding again for the Bombers, pitching seven strong innings, giving up nine hits, but allowing only one unearned run. Alec Mills and Cameron Dullnig finished the game from the mound.

The Bombers fell behind early, giving up one run in the third. The Generals singled in a run that was unearned after an error moved the runner into scoring position.  Saenz took care of business from then on, holding the generals to that one run. In the sixth, the Bombers struck back, leveling the score at 1-1 when Michael Flores scored on a Ryan Morrow groundout. The Bombers took their first lead of the game in the seventh when Rodarrick Jones scored on a wild pitch.  An inning later Jones brought home Josh McElroy on a two out triple to give the Bombers a 3-1 advantage, an insurance run that would loom large at the game’s end.

The Generals fought back, moving runners to second and third in the eighth but Alec Mills struck out David Baker looking to get out of the jam. In the ninth, Cameron Dullnig entered the game to close it out with no outs and runners on first and second. The first batter he faced blasted a double that brought home one man, but the runner from first base was held at third. Dullnig then induced a groundout to record the innings first out. After walking the next batter to load the bases, Dullnig struck out the next two men he faced, each going down looking on full count pitches to seal the 3-2 victory for the Bombers.

The Bombers will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on the North Texas Copperheads in McKinney. For more information visit bvbombers.com, call 979-779-PLAY, or stop by the Bombers office at 405 Mitchell Street in Bryan.
