Bombers Blast the Copperheads

Coppell, TX (June 20, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers earned a big win against North Texas Sunday night, beating the Copperheads 10-6. The Bombers struck early and often to outscore the struggling home team while the Bombers’ pitching staff continued to impress.

The Bombers put two on the board in the third with Michael Flores and Morgan Mickan scoring on an error by the shortstop on Isaac Nuti’s bunt attempt, giving the Bombers an early 2-0 lead. The Copperheads answered back with a solo home run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half, 2-1. The Bombers didn’t waste any time adding more runs, getting three more off a massive Casey Dykes home run to make the score 5-1.

The Bombers added one more in the fifth on a Rodarrick Jones sacrifice fly and a Nuti RBI single in the sixth. The home team scored three in the bottom of the sixth to pull the game within three at 7-4, but the Bombers get the runs right back on an RBI single by Jones and a two RBI single for Dykes, giving him five on the game, and making the score 10-4.

The Copperheads tacked on two in the bottom of the ninth, but were held in check there, giving the Bombers the win, 10-6. Though the staff gave up six runs, the pitching was excellent in the game. The trio of Brian Borski, Michael Mason, and Kyle Blackwell attacked the home team with aggressive pitching to force the issue and cause mistakes.

The Bombers will be back in action tomorrow night to face the Copperheads for the second game of this two game series in Coppell. For more information visit bvbombers.com, call 979-779-PLAY, or stop by the Bombers office at 405 Mitchell Street in Bryan.
