Bombers Winning Streak Snapped at Five

Victoria, TX (June 18, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers lost a hard fought game to the Victoria Generals Friday night, 4-5. The Bombers had a five game winning streak coming into the game, but lost on a game winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Bombers were held in check until the third inning when Wes Patterson blasted a double off the left field wall. Patterson advanced to third on Cory Stooksbury’s bunt and was scored by a Cameron Dullnig single to give the Bombers the 1-0 lead. The team was able to get the bases loaded with no outs later in the inning, but was unable to add any more runs. The Generals answered right back, scoring one in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch to level the score at 1-1.

In the fifth, the Bombers added two more on RBI singles by Greg Olson and Ryan Morrow to stretch the lead to 3-1. Again the Generals answered back in the bottom of the inning with two of their own to tie the game at 3-3. The home team got it’s first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 3-4 advantage on an RBI single.

The Bombers looked to be out of it until the eighth when Morrow singled and was moved to third on a Tanner Toal single before Rodarrick Jones brought him home with a sacrifice fly to bring the score level again at 4-4. The Bombers looked to be headed to extras with the Generals down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth, but Michael Pair singled on a full count pitch, bringing home Andy Russell for the game winning score.
