Center fielder Matt Hilston
Bryan-College Station, TX (June 13, 2014) – Behind a nine strikeout performance from starter Garrett Harris, the Brazos Valley Bombers (10-3) won 6-4 over the Texas Marshals (3-11) Friday night. The win marks the fourth consecutive for the Bombers, as the team now holds a one game lead over the Victoria Generals for first place in the Texas Collegiate League.
Designated hitter Hunter Haley began the scoring for the Bombers in the first inning with an RBI double that scored leadoff hitter Horacio Correa III and center fielder Matt Hiltson. The Bombers would score two more in the first off an error by the Marshals’ first baseman and a passed ball.
Hilston, who hit in the number two spot for the first time this year, went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Harris was able to navigate through a rough third inning—overcoming a pair of his own errors—to record his third win of the year. Though Harris’s two errors would allow a pair of runs, he would rebound by allowing only one earned run in his final three innings.
The Bombers will welcome the Woodland Strykers to Cellucor Field Saturday night for a 7:05 p.m. start. The theme for the game is “Salute to Scouts Night,” in addition to Kids Free Saturday where kids 12 years and under eat, drink, and play for free thanks to Chicken Express.
