Bombers Split Doubleheader Against Texas Marshals

The two games of the Bombers’ doubleheader against the Texas Marshals on Friday told two completely different stories. Brazos Valley won the first game and dropped the second to earn a split of the two games.

The Bombers jumped out to an early advantage in the first game by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Shortstop Horacio Correa III led off the inning with a single, and second baseman Patrick McLendon followed with a walk. Correa scored off of first baseman G.R. Hinsley’s RBI single, and McLendon came around to score on a throwing error. Hinsley later scored as third baseman Hunter Hagler advanced to first on another throwing error. Hagler and center fielder Graham McIntyre scored later in the inning to wrap up the early offensive outburst. Brazos Valley led 5-0 after one inning.

The Marshals were able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run home run by Chabrielle Pizzarro. That would prove to be all that the Marshals’ offense could muster. In the top of the sixth inning, McLendon scored on a wild pitch to produce the final score of 6-2 in the first game.

Parker Ray was the starting pitcher for the first game of the doubleheader. He allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four batters through six innings. Shay Maltese came on to pitch a scoreless final frame of the shortened seven-inning game.

Brazos Valley was again able to get on the scoreboard first in the second game. After a scoreless first inning, Hunter Melton scored on a fielder’s choice by Miles Manning. The Marshals were able to answer in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Pizzarro. The score was tied 1-1 after three innings. The scoring came to a halt until the sixth inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Marshals produced four more runs off of two home runs and an RBI single. The Bombers finally ended the sixth inning with a 5-1 deficit and were unable to account for more offense in their last chance in the seventh inning.

Jason Gareri took the mound for the Bombers in the second game and only allowed one run through four innings of work. Logan Burch pitched in relief in the fifth inning and produced a perfect one-two-three inning. Rex Hill pitched the sixth inning for the Bombers and took the loss while allowing four runs on four hits, including two home runs.

The Bombers continue their road trip this weekend as they face the Victoria Generals on Saturday and Sunday to wrap up the first half of the season. Brazos Valley returns home after the TCL All-Star Game to face the Texas Marshals on Thursday, July 11 at 7:05pm.
