American Momentum Bank Ballpark Heats Up on Saturday Afternoon

Crowds flocked to American Momentum Bank ballpark on a toasty Saturday afternoon for a day of celebration and fun. The Bombers took on the Acadiana Cane Cutters at the special time of 3:35pm, while hosting the closing ceremony for Bryan United Little League before the game and the closing ceremony for Bryan National Little League post-game. Free admission courtesy of Twin City Properties, free kids meals, and free fun in the UPA Kidz Zone highlighted the day for guests of all ages.

When the baseball got underway, the Cane Cutters jumped out to an early lead by earning six runs in the first three innings. The Bombers trailed by five after only scoring one in the bottom of the first after back to back doubles by Horacio Correa III and Graham McIntyre. The real action didn’t start for Brazos Valley until the bottom of the third when errors and walks loaded the bases, allowing G.R. Hinsley to slam a double that brought around both Graham McIntyre and Brett Kauten. On the very next pitch Jake Henson rocked another double that scored both Hunter Melton and Hinsley. At the end of the third the Bombers had closed the gap to only trail by one, with a score of 6-5.

The rally continued for the Bombers in the bottom of both the fifth and sixth innings. After more errors and walks in the fifth, the Bombers once again loaded the bases, setting up for Miles Manning to advance to first and earn an RBI on an error by the third baseman. Correa then slapped a single to bring in another run with Henson. Later, a single by Kauten brought in both Alexis Mercado and Manning. In the sixth the bases were loaded for a third time, allowing Manning to bring in Hinsley on a fielder’s choice, then Kopetsky came in on an RBI single by Correa. After six innings the Bombers had stolen the lead from the Cane Cutters 11-6.

Acadiana attempted redemption in the seventh when they brought in a run on a single, but achieved no more advancement in the game. Designated hitter Jake Henson brought the force in the bottom of the seventh when he rocked a homerun for the second night in a row, bringing in two more for the Bombers. To double their opponent’s score and seal the victory, Brazos Valley added one more to the board in the eighth when a single by third baseman Matt Eureste brought in Manning.

The winning pitcher for the Bombers was Guillermo Trujillo, who threw six innings with six strikeouts. Other pitchers for Brazos Valley included Jason Gareri, who went 1.2 innings on the mound with one strikeout, Andrew Hohn, who made an appearance in the seventh, and Nick Johnson, who closed the game out in the ninth.
