As more players are being signed to play for the Bombers this summer, we are getting near the end of this season's pitching staff with Taylor Wallace, Zac Curtis, and Caleb Hawkins. With some heat already coming out of the bullpen, these three are going to add fuel to the fire and lead the Bombers to a chance at the TCL championship this season.
The Bombers are very excited to announce that freshman right-handed pitcher Taylor Wallace from Central Arkansas University will be coming to the Brazos Valley this upcoming summer. While at Little Rock Central High School, Wallace dominated his competition collecting 22 wins, 290 strikeouts, and an earned-run average of 2.25. By putting up numbers like these, Wallace was selected to the 2012 Central Arkansas All-Star Game, 2012 7A All-State Tournament Team, and the 2012 Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Team. Also during his high school career, Wallace was a 3-time 7A All-Conference selection and a 2-time Catholic Pitching Award recipient. Now, just 28 games into his freshman year at Central Arkansas, Wallace has not been called upon too often making just 6 appearances so far for a total of 4.2 innings pitched. However, Wallace has done extremely well so far when called upon, as he has yet to give up a single earned-run and has only surrendered one hit so far this season. With the amount of success Wallace has been able to achieve throughout his high school career and early stages of his collegiate career, the Bombers are very excited to have him aboard for this upcoming season and hope he can bring that success to the Brazos Valley.
Junior Zac Curtis, who is currently playing for Middle Tennessee State University, will join the roster this summer. Starting at Volunteer State Community College, Zac posted a 4-2 record with a 3.80 ERA as a freshman en route to earning conference Pitcher of the Year honors and a first-team All-Conference selection. Collecting 54 strikeouts while walking 23 in 42.2 innings and making seven starts, including three complete games and one shutout, Zac has had an impressive career for Vol State. At Hendersonville High School, Zac was a two-time All-Region honoree where he was named to the All-District tournament team twice and also participated in the TBCA Showcase. In this season so far with MTSU, this young man has pitched a total of 36.1 innings with 32 strikeouts. With a strong arm, Zac should provide the Bombers with another great add to the roster.
A transfer to Nebraska this spring season, right-handed pitcher Caleb Hawkins comes to the Brazos Valley this summer from the Huskers impressive pitching staff. A native Texan from Queen City, Caleb started his collegiate career at Texarkana college. In the two years for the Bulldogs, Caleb was 7-4 over 75 innings of work, struck out 42 and walked 21, all while being named a Region 14 East All-Star. As a senior at Queen City high school, Caleb posted an 8-5 record, 1 save, and a 2.84 ERA in 65.1 innings. He notched 121 strikeouts to 35 walks and was a key member of the Texarkana American Legion team that won back-to-back Arkansas state championships in 2010 and 2011. Caleb was the 2011 tournament most valuable player with three wins out of the bullpen. The Bombers are happy to have Caleb join the roster this summer and bring him back to Texas!
The Bombers start their season on the road against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on May 30th. Opening day at American Momentum Ballpark will be on June 4th versus the Woodland Strykers.
