Bearkats in the Brazos Valley

Although athletes come play for the Bombers from various parts of the country, just 50 miles away reside the Bearkats from Sam Houston State University. Sam Houston has always provided the Bombers with outstanding players and this year is no different. The Bombers are excited to announce that junior pitchers, Derek Barosh and Jason Simms, along with freshman pitcher and infielder, Miles Manning, will be coming to the Brazos Valley this summer. The Bombers are confident that the mound will be a force to be reckoned with and are excited for a roaring season.

Joining the Bearkats this season from McClennan Community College where he was a two-year Letterman,  left-handed pitcher Derek Barosh comes to us from Magnolia, Texas. Under Coach Dale Westmoreland at Magnolia High School Barosh received honors such as All-state, All-district and District's Most Valuable player and produced a 0.93 ERA with a 13-0 record. For McClennan Barosh produced an earned run average of 2.63 with 65 innings pitched and 54 strikeouts. Barosh should provide the Bombers with some heat out of the bullpen and with a strong left arm, some dynamics to make the 2013 team a fierce competitor in the TCL.

6'6” pitcher from Argyle Texas Jason Simms started his collegiate baseball career at Blinn College. As a freshman Simms pitched 86 innings with 76 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.349. Then continuing his career at Blinn his sophomore year, Simms compiled 57 innings pitched with 61 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.90. For Liberty Christian High School Simms was an All-district pitcher who helped lead his team to the state championship. Hoping to contribute to the mound for Sam Houston this season Coach Pierce states “...Jason has a ton of experience and can really pitch.” The Bombers hope to take his experience and use it to our advantage along with the rest of the 2013 Bombers.

Having been clocked as high as a 91 mph, freshman Miles Manning has been said to play big in big games. From Victoria, Texas, Miles Manning has nothing but good things being said about him and the Bombers are more then excited to see what Manning will produce for Sam Houston as well at the Bombers this summer. At Victoria High school Manning was an All-district and All-area pitcher on a team that was 21-9 district champions and an area finalist team. Manning hit .362 with 20 RBIs and posted 10-2 record on the mound as a junior. Head Coach for Sam Houston, Coach Pierce, says, “Miles may be the best athlete in the class. He plays shortstop, is working on becoming a switch hitter, and is a very good right handed pitcher...Miles commands the ball and has the potential to throw a plus breaking ball.” This freshman is an all around athlete on the field and is a slick-fielding shortstop that has a big time pop in his bat. With immense talent in all the various positions, Manning should be nothing but a threat on the field for the Bombers

The Bombers start their season on the road against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on May 30th. Opening day at home will be on June 4th versus the Woodland Strykers.
