Bombers Win Another with Team Effort in Victoria

Bombers Win Another with Team Effort in Victoria.

The Bombers took a long bus ride down to Victoria today. The drive may have been a little boring, but the game was far from that. Solid hitting, pitching, and defense helped propel the Bombers to their 11th win of the 2012 campaign, 6-2 over the Generals at Riverside Stadium.

The Bombers offense got on the board in the second inning. After first baseman Brad Porras was hit by a pitch, third baseman Brennyn Smith came to the plate and smoked his second homerun of the season over the left field wall. The Bombers would add one run in the fourth as left fielder Brandon Wood hit a double that scored center fielder Jordan Hammerman who got on base with a walk. One run was scored by the offense in the fourth inning. Catcher Braden Mattson hit a standup double to rightfield and Mattson then swiped third base. Mattson then came home on a single to centerfield by Smith making him 2-2 on the evening. The fifth inning also saw the Bombers score a run. Second baseman Corey Toups hit a beautiful single to left field. Toups advanced to second on a groundout by Wood. Toups then came across the plate on a flyout by Mattson. Smith had another single in the inning that made him 3-3 in the game. Porras would hit a double to right centerfield in the seventh inning that scored Wood and extended the Bomber lead to 6-2. Brandon Wood was named the H&R Block Never Settle for Less Player of the Game.

The overall pitching for the Bombers was superb with five pitchers holding the Generals to 5 hits. Starter, Blake Bagley, pitched 4.2 innings giving up the two runs while also recording four strikeouts. Andrew Godail, Logan Burch, and Nick Johnson tossed 3.1 innings of shutout relief. Lefty, Franco Pace, then came in to pitch the 9th. Franco pitched a scoreless innings while picking up two strikeouts to push his season total to 14 in 8 innings pitched. There were many nice defensive plays in the game, but possibly the biggest came from Wood who tracked a ball back to the leftfield wall, jumped and made the catch in what could have scored multiple General runs.
