Bombers Win Another at Fan Packed American Momentum Bank Ballpark.
The Brazos Valley Bombers have now won three straight. They won again tonight by a score of 6-4 over the Texas Marshals. There was a lot of excitement at the park as Bryan United Little League held there closing ceremonies before the game. During the game, the fans saw a great ballgame, and two lucky fans walked away with phenomenal prizes! Cathy Nelson won a Kia Soul as part of the Kia Soul Roll courtesy of Sterling Auto and FedStar Credit Union! Melinda Waltman dug a half carat diamond from behind second base in the postgame diamond dig courtesy of Montelongo’s Fine Jewelry! The Bombers offense started their scoring early tonight. Left fielder, Kevin Knapp, making his Bomber debut drew a walk in his first appearance. Right fielder, Myles Parma came to the plate and hit a single to right field. As Knapp was trying to get to third base the ball sailed over the third baseman’s head enabling Knapp to score the first run and allowing Parma to move to third. Designated hitter Braden Mattson, then hit a dribbler back to the mound. Parma was running home on the play. The Marshal pitcher tried to underhand the ball to the catcher, but Parma was able to slide in safely for the Bombers second run. The Bombers scored one run in the second. Shortstop Corey Toups singled to centerfield that brought up second baseman Shea Pierce. With Toups on third a balk was called that allowed the runners to move up enabling Toups to score. The tandem of Toups and Pierce hit singles again this time in the fourth inning. Knapp came up and hit a grounder that allowed Corey to score. The Bombers would score one run in the fifth inning. The final Bomber run would happen in the seventh inning. Braden Mattson walked to first after being plunked by a pitch. He was able to move to third after the ball got away from the first baseman on the throw over from the pitcher. Mattson would score on a fly out by third baseman Nick Smelser. The Bombers pitching staff was led by starter and H&R Block Never Settle for Less Player of the Game Damien Rivera. Damien pitched 6.2 innings of superb baseball that enabled the Bombers to maintain their lead. After giving up a couple of runs, Luis Dejesus came into the game in relief of Rivera. Dejesus pitched 1.1 innings and recorded a strikeout. Bryan native, Ryan Ullman, came in to pitched the ninth and earned the save with one strikeout in one inning of work. The pitching staff was helped out defensively as usual. Smelser started a 5-4-3 double play to end an inning. Late in the game, he made a great play to charge a bunt and get it to first. Center fielder Chris Florack made a nice running catch, and Toups made a nice play as he regrouped to field a ball and sling over to first baseman Bobby Butvin for the out. Perhaps the best plays were made by Knapp. His first catch was a nice grab on a ball as he slid on a knee in the sixth inning, his next happened in the seventh as he slid on his back to rob a Marshal of a hit. The Bombers will head on the road this Sunday as they take on the Victoria Generals. Game time is at 7:05. The Bombers return to American Momentum Bank Ballpark on Monday for three games.
