Five Bombers Highlight Perfect Games Top 25 TCL Prospects ListThe Bombers are thrilled to announce that five of their players from the 2011 season have been named to Perfect Game’s Top 25 TCL Prospects List. Bombers pitchers Adam Smith and Alec Mills, and infielders Jacob House, Casey Dykes, and Trey Porras represented the team in the rankings. Adam Smith was ranked highest of the five Bombers, checking in as the 3rd best overall prospect in the league. He split time between third base and the pitchers mound this summer, but his future is on the mound, where he throws a 96 mph fastball. Smith was drafted in the 25th round by the New York Yankees in this summer’s MLB draft, and began his professional career with the team’s rookie-ball squad. He compiled a 2.70 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched during his time with the Bombers. Alec Mills was the next Bomber on the list, ranking as the 11th overall prospect. The righty led the TCL with a 1.98 ERA this season, which was just a shade better than teammate Damien Rivera’s 2.01 mark. Mills displayed great command on the year, walking just seven hitters over his 59 innings pitched. He also set a Bombers’ team record 55 strikeouts on the season. Mills is set to enter his junior season at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Jacob House was the top ranked first baseman on the list, where he ranked 13th overall. House joined the team at midseason following a College World Series berth by the Texas A&M Aggies, and was immediately inserted into the cleanup spot in the batting order. He went on to hit .346 in 22 games played, with 13 runs batted in and a 10:13 strikeout to walk ratio. House will return for his junior season with the Aggies for the upcoming season. Bombers’ third baseman Casey Dykes was the 19th ranked player on the list. Dykes completed his second season with the Bombers, where he hit .281 with a home run and 23 runs batted in. He also provided high-quality defense at third base. Dykes is entering his senior season at Western Kentucky. Trey Porras rounded out the five Bombers listed, slotting right behind Dykes as the 20th ranked player on the list. Porras was the Bombers’ top hitter for the season, hitting from the third spot in the batting order from early on. He posted the highest batting average in the TCL with a .344 mark, and his 36 runs scored and 72 hits led the Bombers. Porras will be a senior at the University of New Mexico for the upcoming season. Congratulations to all of these outstanding players for their exceptional play this season. Best of luck to all the players for the upcoming season. The entire TCL Top 25 list can be viewed here |
