Bombers Win Third Straight as Fans Pack the House to See Billy Liucci

The Bombers beat the Acadiana Cane Cutters 7-3 on Friday night, as fans came out in droves to collect bobbleheads of Billy Liucci from TexAgs.com. The win makes three straight for the Bombers, who haven’t lost since sporting handlebar mustaches (“Randall Handles”).

The Bombers got on the board in the 1st inning, as first baseman Brad Porras drew a bases-loaded walk to score centerfielder Greg Olson. The Bombers have scored in the opening frame in each of the first three games of their four game homestand.

The Cane Cutters answered with a run in the 7th inning to tie the game. It was the first time they were able to get anything on starter Jake Moser, who pitched seven and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and allowing two runs.

The Bombers answered strongly in their next two chances, scoring two in the bottom of the 7th, and then adding four more in the 8th to put the game away for good.

The team was led by designiated hitter Brennyn Smith, who went 4-for-5 on the day with two doubles and two runs batted in. Herb Romero, Scott Arthur, Trey Porras, and Cam Sherrer also had multiple hits in the contest.

The win puts the Bombers solely in possession of the fourth and final playoff spot with five games left to play. The Victoria Generals are also in contention for the spot, and the two teams will meet at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark for the final two games of the season. The series will prove vitally important with playoff implications on the line.

The Bombers will wrap up their four-game home stand tomorrow night against the Cane Cutters. Be sure to come out for the game and for Faith Night, where there will be a pregame concert by the local Christian band Crosswind and a full evening of uplifting and spiritual music. Tickets start at $5 and can be purchased at the gate or at bvbombers.com.
