As announcer Damon Slaydons strike reaches its eighth day, the Bombers mascot KaBoom is set to fill in up in the Press Box for tonights game. While KaBoom is used to being in front of fans, this will be his first foray behind the microphone at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.
Rumors of an agreement between Slaydon and the East Texas Pump Jacks have heated up in the last couple of days, and it appears that a deal will be reached within the next day or two. Talks began heating up after the Pump Jacks sent a gallon of Chicken Express Sweet Tea to Slaydon in the Press Box during last Tuesdays game.
KaBoom is set to fill the hole left by Slaydon on an interim basis, and owner Uri Geva is excited about the possibility of seeing the energetic mascot in the booth. He excites everyone in the ballpark with his energy and enthusiasm, Geva said. So why wouldnt he be able to do that in the Announcers chair?
KaBoom has been much more realistic in his Chicken Express Sweet Tea requests than Slaydon was, Geva said. Who knows? If tonight goes well, we could be looking to replace our on-field entertainment instead of our announcer.
Time will tell if Slaydon can be convinced to rejoin the team, or if it really is time to turn the page in the press box.
