The Brazos Valley Bombers beat the Alexandria Aces 3-1 on Kids Free Saturday sponsored by Chicken Express behind another outstanding effort by their pitching staff, as well as the loudest fan support of the season. There were 1751 fans on hand to see the Bombers win their 6th of the last 7 games, including a large number of dogs, who got in free for Bark in the Park presented at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.
Four Bombers pitchers combined to allow just 7 hits in 9 innings of baseball, and the team capitalized on very timely hits to win the game. Starting pitcher Josh Dean allowed the lone run for the Aces in 4 and two-thirds innings of solid baseball, before turning it over to the lights-out Bombers' bullpen, who closed the door on the opponents. A fielders choice by Brennyn Smith allowed Greg Olson to score the first run for the Bombers in the bottom of the first inning, and the team was able to add two more to provide all the firepower the pitching staff needed to lock down the win.
The Bombers will have Sunday off before their week-opening series with the Coppell Copperheads. At the game Monday night the Bombers will honor the Fathers in attendance, allowing them to play catch on the field with their kids, and giving away game-used baseballs to the first 100 fans in the park. Tuesday's game brings Cars Night, featuring a giveaway of cars from the new Pixar movie, Cars 2, and movie tickets to see the film thanks to Aamco Transmissions and Total Car Care.
