Stellar Pitching Allows Bombers VictoryWeimar, TX (July 24, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers won a wild game in Weimar Saturday night as the team beat the Tomcats 3-2 in ten innings courtesy of four Tomcats errors that vthe Bombers all three of their runs. Brannon Easterling was rewarded for his nine innings of great work as he picked up the win when the Bombers scored in the tenth. In the third, Greg Olson drew a two out walk before Isaac Nuti’s single. The ball was misplayed by the left fielder though, allowing Olson to score and Nuti to reach second. Casey Dykes followed by driving one to the shortstop Brock Hebert, but he misplayed the ball, allowing Nuti to score, giving the Bombers a 2-0 lead. The Tomcats responded with two of their own in the fourth, but they were the only runs that Bombers’ started Brannon Easterling allowed in nine innings. Easterling allowed just five hits and struck out four in the game. The defensive star of the game was John Cannon though, as he threw out the Texas Collegiate League leader in steals Hebert twice in the game as Hebert tried to steal second base to earn the new TCL record for steals. Both teams were held in check by strong pitching until the teams headed into extras. In the top of the tenth Olson reached base on another error by the Tomcats shortstop. Two batters later, Dykes singled to move Olson to third before Wes Patterson came up to bat with another opportunity to be the hero. He flared one over to the second baseman who dropped the ball in shallow center field allowing Olson to score and putting the Bombers ahead 3-2 on the Tomcats’ fourth error. In the bottom of the inning reliever Ryan Eastman quickly recorded the first out, but then found himself in a jam with runners on second and third and one out. The next hitter for the Tomcats grounded a ball to Patterson who quickly stepped on first for the second out and then saw that the runner on second, Hebert, had strayed too far off second base. Patterson smartly charged him causing the runner at third to head home. Patterson tossed the ball to Cannon who then ran down the runner for the third out and Bombers win on three unearned runs. The Bombers will be in Victoria Sunday before returning to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark for a Feast Monday in the first game of a two game series against the North Texas Copperheads. The game comes on King of Pop night as the Bombers celebrate the life and legacy of Michael Jackson, so put on your dancing shoes and get out to the ballpark.
