Alexandria, LA (July 15, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers lost to the Alexandria Aces 4-7 Thursday night despite scoring two in the ninth and bringing the tying run to the on-deck circle. Despite the loss the Bombers held on to first place in the texas Collegiate League standings for another day.
The Bombers and Aces combined for just three base hits through the first four innings, but Casey Dykes led off the fifth for the Bombers with a triple to right field. Dykes was scored on a Tanner Toal to give the visiting team the 1-0 lead. The Aces answered right back though, scoring four in the bottom of the same inning and then three more in the seventh to claim a 1-7 lead.
The Bombers struggled to respond, but pushed one across in the eighth when Ryan Morrow reached base on an error by the second baseman, making the score 2-7. In the ninth the Bombers continued to fight, scoring Isaac Nuti and Rodarrick Jones to pull within three at 4-7. The Bombers ran out of outs though with a close groundout ending the game at first base.
The Bombers will be back in action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Kids Free Saturday against the Victoria Generals. All kids will get in for free, eat for free, and play for free in the Kids Zone all night.
