Bombers Squeeze Out a Win On Fireworks Friday!

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 25, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers won a thrilling game against the North Texas Copperheads 5-4 in front of 1829 fans on Fireworks Friday. The Bombers used back-to-back squeeze bunts to overcome a one run deficit in the eighth to pick up the exciting win on Winter in June night.

After the win, fans were treated to an incredible fireworks show lasting some ten minutes and raising cheers throughout Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark. The first 500 fans also received Bombers foam fingers thanks to Bottom Line Bookkeeping and American Lube Centers.

The Bombers fell behind early for the second straight night, giving up three runs to the Copperheads in the second inning. The home team fought right back though, scoring Wes Patterson on a Cameron Dullnig RBI single in the bottom of the second, making the score 1-3.

The Copperheads extended the lead back to three runs with one in the third, but the Bombers added another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Patterson that brought Josh McElroy home to make the score 2-4. In the fourth, a Greg Olson RBI single scored Dullnig, bringing the Bombers within one run at 3-4.

The score stayed frozen at that mark until the eighth when the Bombers got men on second and third with one out. Dullnig took the first pitch before dropping down a suicide squeeze bunt that rolled just under the glove of the Copperheads pitcher, scoring Casey Dykes who was running from third on the play. The next batter, Michael Flores, dropped down an almost identical bunt that scored Morgan Mickan to give the Bombers the 5-4 lead.

Alec Mills finished the game on the hill for the Bombers, inducing two groundouts and striking out the last batter he faced to give his team the victory, emptying the home dugout out onto the field. Mills earned the win for the Bombers as starter Levi Saenz left the game when the Bombers still trailed.

The Bombers will be back in action tomorrow and Sunday against the Victoria Generals in Victoria. The team will be back at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Thursday, July 1 for Thirsty Thursday with $1 beer and $0.50 soft drinks all night.
