Box Score
The Brazos Valley Bombers won their third straight game tonight, as they narrowly defeated the McKinney Marshals 5-4 behind some more ninth inning heroics. The win pulls the Bombers into a tie for first place with the East Texas Pumpjacks, who had the night off.
The Bombers, who had their second straight game with double-digit hits, seemed to be coasting for another easy win as they held a 4-1 lead going into the eighth inning. Brett Parsons had an RBI single in the fifth inning to give the Bombers the lead and extend his hitting streak to a league-high 14 games. Clifton Thomas pieced together another multiple hit game and raised his batting average to .256, while John Hale gathered two hits for the Bombers, who totaled 13 for the game.
The Marshals made the game interesting in the bottom of the eighth inning, as they rallied for three runs to tie the game at four. The Bombers were not to be outdone, however, as they provided more ninth inning heroics and scored a run to reclaim the lead. Joe Craven beat out an infield single, as he slid into first before the throw, which sailed over Casey Selsor’s head. Kyle Atkins came around to score on the error, giving the Bombers the precious run they needed to take the lead.
Joaquin Hinojosa breezed through the ninth inning to ice the victory for the Bombers, who improved to 11-6 with the victory. The Bombers will try to win their second straight over the Marshals tomorrow, before returning home for Margaritaville Wednesday, which features $2 Margaritas and $2 Draft Beer.
