Bombers Add Outfielders to their Arsenal

The Brazos Valley Bombers announced the additions of two outfielders who will add an immediate punch to their attack. Cody Cotter of the University of St. Louis and Andre Rodriguez from the University of Missouri hope to stabilize the outfield rotation as the team prepares for its third summer of Texas Collegiate League play.

During the opening weekend of the college season, Cotter instantly put his leadoff skills on display as he reached base seven times in 15 at-bats. He possesses fantastic speed and demonstrated his plate discipline by drawing four walks this past weekend.

The speedster has been a major addition for the Billikens after transferring from Iowa Western Community College, who he led to the Junior College World Series last year. He not only torched opposing pitchers with a .395 batting average, but also broke the school record with eight triples. At 5’9” and 180, he is compactly built and displays great power to the gaps, enabling him to hit for extra bases with regularity.

Cotter is a product of St. Joseph Central High School, which is located in his hometown of St. Joseph, Missouri. The left hander was a two-time All-City, All-District and All-Conference selection for the Indians while playing both the outfield and infield.

Rodriguez comes to the University of Missouri with high expectations after being named team MVP his senior season at Sharyland High School in McAllen, Texas. He hit an incredible .420, while racking up 11 home runs, seven triples, 13 doubles and 45 RBI on his way to an All-State Honorable Mention selection. He was also the All-Area Offensive MVP after leading Sharyland to a 32-3-1 record.

He enjoyed a successful campaign for Missouri this past fall, starting in each of the three Fall World Series games. He collected at least one hit each game, including a triple, two doubles and four RBI.

Both players should be valuable additions to the Bombers as they look to increase their versatility and depth this offseason. Stay tuned to check the progress of the Bombers each and every day by reading the Daily Fly Over on www.bvbombers.com.
