The Brazos Valley Bombers struggled at the plate all night, but made an incredible comeback attempt that came up just short, losing to the McKinney Marshals 6-5. The Bombers scored two runs in the 8th inning and three more in the 9th, but were came up short with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th.
The Bombers were handicapped by Marshals pitcher Nick Pepitone, who pitched brilliantly and gave up no runs. Meanwhile, the Marshals scored six runs themselves and seemed to be in cruise control heading into the 8th inning. The Bombers scored two runs on Zach Grichor’s RBI single and Dustin Dickerson’s sacrifice fly which scored Grichor to cut the score to 6-2.
The Marshals sent out their closer, Nick Thomas for the save opportunity, but the Bombers pieced together four hits and scored three runs to cut the gap to 6-5. The Marshals then sent in center fielder Joey Centenni to stop the bleeding. With Chad Colbert on first base and Todd Cunningham at the plate, the Bombers tried a hit-and-run, but to the awe of the crowd Cunningham hit a screaming line drive that was caught by right fielder Bo Coffman. Coffman then made an easy throw to double off Colbert. The Bombers threatened again, loading the bases, but Caleb Shofner flied out to right field to end the game.
The Bombers will be back home against the Coppell Copperheads on Tuesday, for Kids Eat Free Tuesday. Come join the fun at the Brazos Valley Ballpark as the Bombers take on the reigning TCL Champion Copperheads at 7:05 pm.
