The Brazos Valley Bombers came out on top tonight against the Coppell Copperheads, winning an extra-inning affair to split the series. It was a crazy night at the Snake Pit that featured a no-hitter through six innings, a blackout, and a sprinkler system malfunction, but the Bombers managed to come up with the 3-0 inning in extra innings.
Riley Boening pitched six innings of no-hit ball for the Copperheads and Shaun Siebert nearly matched him, allowing just three hits through seven innings as both teams failed to score a run. The teams got an extra “stretch” in the seventh inning, as play was delayed for 15 minutes after the lights went out. After play finally had resumed, the teams continued in the same fashion, going inning after inning without scoring a run.
The teams went into extra innings still at a scoreless tie and the Bombers threatened to score in the 10th inning after Brian Nelson doubled to right field, but were unable to knock him in. The game was delayed yet again in the next half-inning, as the water sprinklers unexpectedly turned on. After the delay, Travis Dirk struck out the final batter to end the inning. Nick Anders finally got the Bombers going in the 11th inning, as he started things off with a walk and used three wild pitches to advance all the way around to score. Zach Grichor, Tyler Huelsing, and Brian Nelson all hit singles to give the Bombers a 3-0 lead. With the support of a three run lead, Dustin Rasco came in and retired the Copperheads to collect his second save of the season.
