Home Run Bombs Propel Brazos Valley to Victory

All night long, it seemed that every time the Bombers rallied McKinney would answer right back with a run to put them back in the lead. And with two strikes and two outs in the top of the 9th inning, the Bombers seemed to be doomed for yet another heartbreaking defeat. Dustin Dickerson changed all of that with one swing of the bat, as his two-run slam tied the game. Not to be outdone, Trey Sperring walloped the next pitch over the left field fence to give the Bombers the lead and eventually, the game.

The Marshals jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after three innings, but the Bombers charged back, scoring three runs in the top of the 4th inning to pull even behind Nick Anders RBI double. The Marshalls answer right back, making it a 6-3 game heading into the 7th inning. Todd Cunningham then provided a huge two-RBI triple and scored on the next play to even the score at six, but the Marshals again answered back and built a three-run lead entering the 9th inning.

The Marshals retired Eric Udell to begin the 9th inning and got T.J. Mittelstaedt to pop out to second base for the second out with Todd Cunningham standing helplessly on 1st base, and it seemed that hope was fading for the Bombers. But with two balls and two strikes on him, Dustin Dickerson sent the next pitch screaming over the right field fence for a home run to tie the game. Shocked in disbelief at the unbelievable turn of events, the Marshal fans watched in dismay as Trey Sperring clocked the next pitch over the left field fence to give the Bombers the lead, 9-8.

The one run lead was all the Bombers needed, as Dustin Rasco came out to pick up his third save in as many tries, as he struck out Chuck Opachich for the final out. The win gave the Bombers their first winning streak of the season as they moved to 6-5. They will try to make it three in a row tomorrow as they search for a two-game sweep over the Marshals. Sam Strickland will get the start for the Bombers as game time is set for 5 pm.
