Fathers Day Battle Goes Down to the WireThe Brazos Valley Bombers played their hearts out tonight but fell short to the McKinney Marshals 3-2. Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark was buzzing with excitement all night as the Father’s Day Festivities included Sunday Bingo and a watch giveaway sponsored by Montelongo’s Fine Jewelers. Four luck winners from Sunday Bingo won a night in the owner’s box, the opportunity to throw out the first pitch of an upcoming ballgame, a 2008 Bombers autographed baseball, and reserved plus tickets for a Bombers game. Bombers ace Jim McGonigle battled Michael Bolsinger for three scoreless innings to open the ballgame, until the Marshals tacked on two runs in the 4th inning on Justin Bloxom’s single. Dustin Dickerson finally got things going for the Bombers in the 6th inning as he doubled down the right field line. Trey Sperring and Nick Anders walked to load the bases before McKinney pitcher Hunter Hill walked Zach Grichor to send Dickerson in for the first Bombers run. Eric Udell then singled in Sperring to tie the game at two, but the Bombers were unable to break the tie as Hill got out of the inning. The score remained tied until the top of the 9th inning, when trouble came for the Bombers. McKinney loaded the bases with one out and Michael Reed hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to score Brian Taylor to give McKinney the 3-2 lead. Marshals’ pitcher Ryan Doyle, who had retired all six batters he faced in the previous two innings, got the Bombers in order to collect his first win of the season. With the loss, the Bombers drop to 3-3 and will resume play against the East Texas Pumpjacks on Tuesday. Bombers newcomer Sam Strickland will get the start for the Bombers as they try to get back in the win column. Bring your whole family out to the ballpark on Tuesday as it will be Kids Eat Free Night. Inflatables will also be set up for the kids to play in, so don’t miss out on the fun! |
