Sooners Add Experience to BombersThe Brazos Valley Bombers plans for a deep postseason run in the Texas Collegiate League received a giant boost today, as they announced the signing of two Oklahoma Sooners. Trey Sperring and Chad Colbert will look to add another dimension to the team with their toughness, experience, and talent. Sperring, a junior third baseman, has the potential to become a fan favorite among Brazos Valley fans with his exceptional power and fine defensive abilities. At 6’3” and 230 pounds, he is a physically imposing athlete capable of crushing the ball over the fence on any given at-bat. He has used his experience playing on multiple levels to mold himself into a great player with unlimited potential. Just three hours away from Bryan-College Station at Cypress Creek High School, he was a three-year letter winner in baseball. As a senior, he posted a .309 batting average and was selected to the All-District Team. He began his college career at perennial title contender Rice, where he played 11 games, before transferring to San Jacinto Junior College for his sophomore campaign. Since then, he has been on the fast track to stardom, batting .371 with six home runs and 49 RBI, as well as being named to the All-Conference team and receiving the NJCAA Rawlings Gold Glove award at 3rd Base. Following his outstanding stint with San Jacinto, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma. As a junior this year, he has served as Oklahoma’s starting 3rd Baseman and has continued to play well, batting .263 with 13 RBI. Chad Colbert is also an important addition to the squad this year and hopefully the next few seasons as well. The freshman outfielder not only hits for power, but he also has the ability to get on base and steal second in the blink of an eye. As a senior at Allen High School in his hometown of Allen, Oklahoma, he was an All-State selection after hitting an unbelievable .535, with eight home runs and 32 stolen bases. He also received the Jim Thorpe award in 2006, which is given to Oklahoma’s top baseball player in any class. Colbert should be a solid contributor to the Bombers this upcoming summer, as he puts his many talents on display. Bomber fans have a chance to see Sperring and Colbert in action this weekend, as the Oklahoma Sooners will be coming to College Station to face the Aggies at Olsen Field. The series opens up on Friday at 6:30pm. It will be an exciting summer for the Bombers as they prepare for the upcoming season. Come and join the fun as you have a chance to see star players from all of over the country play in the TCL this summer.
