Bombers Advance to the TCL Championship Defeating Baton Rouge at Home!Bryan/College Station, TX (August 2, 2023) – The Bombers are going to the championship after a big win at home against the Rougarou with a final score of 6-4! The Championship game will be held on Saturday either at edible field or in Victoria if they win their series! The Bombers dominated on offense with 11 hits giving them tonight's victory after explosive innings of scoring! The victory this evening was also supplemented by nice pitching performances by Mason Peters, Caleb Strmiska, and closer Stephen Pena. Brazos Valley picked up right where they left off last night and took the early lead in the first due to a RBI single by national champion Jacob Guerrero to score Simon Larranaga for an earned run! Larranaga seemed to be last night’s MVP, launching a ball almost out the park in extras last night to give Brazos Valley the lead needed to win game 1! In the second, Christian Smith Johnson continued to prove his recent consistency by earning a single to keep momentum high!
In the third, Cole Modgling earned a single of his own to keep Rougarou pitching staff tense and keep the Bombers rolling. With a two run deficit going into the bottom of the fifth the Bombers answered this with runs of their own. Ben Columbus and Jacob Guerrero put up singles in this inning making it hard for them not to score in this inning and the runs came when Parker Airhart logged a base hit of his own to score Columbus and Guerrero tying the ball game!
All-TCL outfielder, Christian Smith Johnson kept scoring hopes alive in the 6th with yet another single in this ball game due to his hitting skills as of late. To follow this up, Smith Johnson goes for back to back hits with a leadoff triple in the eighth! To help secure tonight’s victory, Cole Modgling earned an RBI single to score Christian Smith Johnson and shortly after Ben Columbus smoked a ball into center for a 2 RBI double to score Casey Sunseri and Cole Modgling for insurance runs! This lead gave them the win after surviving the top of the ninth thanks to Stephen Pena.
