All We Do is Rake: Bombers Dominate Baton Rouge 11-3

Bryan/College Station, TX (July 27, 2023) – Despite a slow start the Bombers took an electric 8 run inning later in the game to win tonight’s ball game 11-3. They proved to be clutch in this game and stayed in it long enough to take off towards the end of the game to propel them far past the Rougarou in scoring in order to take the victory and bring their team back into the winner’s column. This game marks the final homestand for the season with the last two games being met at edible field against Rougarou tomorrow night in hopes of another blowout and the River Monsters the following evening!

Tonight’s ballgame looked to be a close one during the first half of the night with things starting out for the Bombers with a Kamden Kelton base hit to advance Ben Columbus (walk) to third base in the second inning. Also in the second, Christian Smith Johnson, who proved to be a key role of tonight’s victory, earned a sac fly for an RBI to score Ben Columbus for the bombers first run of the night! On the defensive, Parker Bigham logged back to back strikeouts in the third and had 5 Ks on the board after that inning showing off his skills on the mound tonight.

In the fifth, Casey Sunseri kept things alive for this Brazos Valley team with an RBI to score Kamden Kelton to tie the ballgame 2-2 advancing Chritian Smith Johnson to third showing how close this game looked to be the majority of the time. TAMUCC islander, Cole Modgling also put up an RBI single into right center field to score Smith Johnson with two outs on the board to take the lead for the first time in the game in this inning. He showed off his versatility following up his single with a stolen base at the next pitch. Before a great offensive 7th inning Simon Larranaga saw a positive trend in his game with a leadoff base hit for a kickstarter in the 6th!

Offense took off in the seventh with help from mishaps in Baton Rouge pitching to give them 8 more runs that would be unanswered allowing for an easy win tonight. Smith Johnson started things off with another base hit through the 6 hole for a single in the with one out showing off his recent consistency at bat and leading the team in offensive momentum this evening. Casey Sunseri logs his second RBI of the night smacking a ball deep into right field to score Smith Johnson. Cole Modgling kept things alive at the plate with a single in his at bat advancing runners! After Modgling’s single, the Rougarou pitcher walked several Bombers runners to bring Jordan Medellin, Casey Sunseri, and Cole Modgling home for three more Brazos Valley runs. Kamden Kelton logged a base hit in this inning as well being launched out of reach allowing for Ben Columbus and Parker Airhart to score giving Kelton 2 RBIs as well. To end the offensive momentum for tonight Christian Smith Johnson launched a ball deep into the outfield to drop for a double!
