Incredible Comeback To Snap Bombers Losing Streak and Secure a Victory!Bryan/College Station, TX (July 16, 2023) – Bombers hitters launched several balls tonight giving them 10 hits to come back from a 5-0 deficit! The final score tonight was 8-5 after the Bombers scored 8 unanswered runs to propel them ahead of the River Monsters and close the deficit. The game this evening snaps the Bombers three game losing streak on the road and will put this Brazos Valley team back in the winning column before taking days off from games. The Bombers ended up dominating on offense taking advantage of several River Monsters errors supplemented by great fielding to secure the comeback win! Bombers pitcher Logan Whitfield, who was a redshirt freshman at Texas Tech this past season, made his Bombers debut tonight and struggled in the first, walking several Seguin athletes causing them to score on walks and would be taken out after a third of the way into the half inning. Dalton LeBlanc came into the game after Whitfield to try and save the Bombers from a bases loaded one out jam and logged a strikeout to help the team get closer to an escape. On the offense however, the momentum was completely different with a two run home run with two outs on the board by Simon Larranaga slammed out of left field to score himself and Ben Columbus who got on base from a walk. Simon is leading the TCL in homeruns earning four so far this season!
There continued to be noise on offense going into the second with a base hit being earned by tonight’s third baseman Maddox Miesse; this ball being smacked into the right field, unable to be reached by Seguin outfielders. Dalton LeBlanc pitched a great third inning striking out batters and not allowing any runs to set up the Bombers offense with some positive momentum and a little less pressure than previous innings. Mr. TCL, Casey Sunseri, took advantage of the energy with a beautiful double launched right into the gap in right field showing off why he's the leading hitter in the league. He continued to show off his impressive skill set stealing third base where he sits at third in the league in most bases stolen.
Dalton LeBlanc logs his third punch out with a leadoff strikeout to begin the fourth inning tonight proving how key of a role he plays in this Bombers pitching staff. The team’s Angelo State athletes Justin Harris and Jacob Guerrero secured the final two outs for the Bombers this half inning showing off their defensive dominance that helped their team win a national championship this past spring. On the offensive, Jacob Guerrero continued to earn stats to his name this summer stealing second and third base on pass balls.
Justin Harris kept things going for the Bombers in the sixth with a double knocked into left field that fooled the outfielders allowing this ball to drop and bring the team to scoring position. This paid off for this Brazos Valley team with an RBI single by Ben Columbus giving the team back to back hits and bringing the score to 5-3. Jacob Guerrero reaches second on a fielder's choice error that brought home two runs to tie the ball game 5-5! These runs were brought in by Simon Larranga and Ben Columbus and this would retire Seguin’s pitcher with only one out on the scoreboard. This electric inning continued with Maddox Miesse advancing to first off an error allowing Jacob Guerrero to score propelling the Bombers past Seguin with a score of 6-5! Maddox Miesse followed up this play by stealing second, giving the Bombers their third stolen base of the night.
The Bombers ended the top of the seventh with a pick off scramble play being clutch on defense all evening and rolled into the bottom with Casey Sunseri advancing to first on an error. Justin Harris answered this by showing off his skills with a successful bunt to fool the defenders that would cause an error and get him to third as well as scoring Casey Sunseri. Jacob Guerrero electrified fans with a base hit following the previous play that would drop perfectly into the gap in right field to bring his Angelo State teammate Justin Harris home, giving the Bombers a 3 run lead and logging an RBI single for himself! They scored 8 unanswered runs to win tonight’s ballgame in an amazing comeback to beat the River Monsters!
