The Bombers Go Scoreless In Their Third Game Against The Acadiana Cane CuttersYoungsvile, Louisiana (June 4, 2022)- The Bombers looked to continue their success against the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the third game of the series at Fabacher Field in Youngsville, Louisiana, the Cane Cutters’ home. The Cane Cutters catcher, Matt Abshire, had a busy first inning, catching Bombers shortstop Davis Powell stealing second, then turning it around and hitting an RBI triple, which he later scored due to a Bombers error. The score after one was 2-0 Cane Cutters. Throughout the early innings, the Bomber hitters did not make things easy for Cane Cutters starter Henry Shuffler, as there was a lot of action on the bases early on. However, spectacular play after spectacular play by the Cane Cutters infield proved to be detrimental to Bomber opportunities in the first few innings. Hunter Mayo began strongly in relief of starter AJ Kostic, pitching a 1-2-3 second inning including a strikeout. However, after a double and a single to put runners on the corners in the bottom of the third to the Cane Cutters with no outs, he got a vital double play turned by Jake Rabe and Davis Powell that scored the runner on third but minimized the damage. The score after three was 3-0 Cane Cutters. The Bombers had a massive opportunity to score in the top of the fourth after back-to-back singles by Brayden Evans and Riley Bender, kicking Cane Cutters starter Henry Shuffler out of the game. Relief pitcher John Gray took over, walking Bombers catcher Robert Antonetti to load the bases with no outs. The Bombers proceeded to pop up, strike out, and fly out to save the Cane Cutters from giving up any runs. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cane Cutters manage to load the bases with two outs after an error for the Bombers, ending Hunter Mayo’s night after 2 ⅔ innings. Dalton Leblanc took over and walked his first batter to score Jake Laprarie from third base. He managed to strike out his next batter to end the fourth, Cane Cutters leading 4-0. The rest of the game for both teams was quiet from then on, with a few hits here and there, and a couple of great plays by the Cane Cutters to squander any hope the Bombers had of scoring. The Bombers hope to rally back in the series finale against the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Fabacher Field on Sunday, June 5th to take a 3-1 series win. The Bombers will be back at Edible Field Wednesday, June 8 as they take on the Victoria Generals and hope to even up the tally against them.
