Bombers Win Again Thanks to 8th Inning Batting SuccessBryan-College Station, Texas (June 3, 2022)- The Brazos Valley Bombers take an 11-5 victory against the Acadiana Cane Cutter in their 2nd of 4 game series. The four-hour ballgame was sealed by the Bombers in the 8th inning with the Bombers hitting through the order and scoring five, four of which came with two outs. The Bombers continue their 1st inning woes from last night, allowing three runs to start the game. The home team found themselves in a hole early after catcher Kade Fletcher attempts to catch Acadiana leadoff batter Casey Artigues stealing third but sails his throw into the outfield, allowing Artigues to steal 3rd and home all in one go. The Cane Cutters tack on another 2 runs in the top of the 1st off an RBI double down the 1st baseline from CF Justin Williams to drive home Kade Dupont and Matt Abshire. After allowing three in the top of the 1st, the Bombers were able to put up one of their own in the bottom. In a wild series of events leadoff batter, Travis Chestnut stole his way around the bases to put the Bombers on the board. The score after one, 3-1 Cane Cutters. 1st baseman Cole Kracmer was able to find a hole in left center field to drive home 3B Riley Bender for an RBI double in the bottom of the 4th. Bender, in his first game for the bombers, scored from 2nd base after hitting a moon shot to the left field fence. Kracmer found his way home to score in the 4th off a fielder's choice hit by Chestnut. After four innings the score was tied 3-3. The Bombers took a two-run lead in the 6th and never looked back, scoring two in the 7th, two in the 6th, and four in the 8th inning. The Cane Cutters kept it close through 7.5 innings, walking in a run in the 7th and a Jake Lapriaire RBI in the top of the 8th. The Cane Cutters' hopes of coming back were chopped in the 8th thanks to a beautiful hit triple by Riley Bender that scored two. After loading the bases, Brandon Bishop takes a ball to the shoulder and gives Bender a free trip to home plate for the 3rd Bombers' score of the inning. An RBI single hit by Travis Chestnut caps to bring home Mike Adair was the last of the bombers scoring and sealed the 11-5 victory for the Brazos Valley Bombers. Leadoff man Travis Chestnut, Riley Bender, and Brandon Bishop all had outstanding performances at the plate. Combined they had 8 hits and 8 RBIs! Starting pitcher for the Bombers, Austin Teel finished three innings with six strikeouts, and 2nd pitcher of the game Trent Thompkins had himself five Ks through 4 innings, only allowing 1 run.
The Bombers travel to Acadiana for their 3rd and 4th match in a row against the Cane Cutters. Those games will be Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5. The Bombers are back in action at Edible Field Wednesday, June 8 with hopes of getting revenge on the Victoria Generals who gave the Bombers their 1st loss of the season.
