Bombers Take Revenge on Twins in 9-2 WinBryan/College Station, TX - June 15, 2019 – The Bombers bounced back with a vengeance against the Texarkana Twins in a 9-2 win at home Saturday night. The Bombers end their three-game skid and improve to 11-3 to stay tied with the Victoria Generals atop the Texas Collegiate League standings. After Friday night’s game, Cole Coker expressed that the three-game losing streak against the Twins would provide some motivation for the team. Coker delivered on that statement in the second inning on a rocket to right field that would drive Jordan Yeatts, Ridge Rogers and Kyle Bergeron home before Coker himself would cross the plate on the same hit thanks to a pair of bumbles from the defense. “I was turning second and Nelly was giving me the red light,” said Coker postgame, “but I thought I had it. I shouldn’t have blown him off, but I kept going and they overthrew it. Once I saw them overthrow it, I was like, all right, I’m going to go take this one.” Coker’s shot was preceded by a loaded-base walk to push Jacob Padilla across the plate and succeeded by a rundown induced by Ty Coleman that distracted the defense long enough to get his older brother, Hunter Coleman, on the board as well. Coleman’s score went down as the seventh run scored in the bottom of the second, putting the Bombers up 9-0 early. Sam McElreath kickstarted the Bombers revenge game with a two-RBI single. McElreath also recorded a single during Saturday night’s matchup. Dontae Woodard started on the mound for Brazos Valley, his first start of the 2019 season. The Texas State product threw six innings Saturday night and finished with five strikeouts, two hits, no runs and the win. Woodard gained some bona fides from the coaching staff after his two-inning, five-strikeout outing on June 11. Brian Williams entered in relief, going two innings with one strikeout and two hits. Bryce Bennett finished the night for the Bombers. The Bombers defense blanked the Twins through the first eight innings of play, only allowing the Twins to score in the top of the ninth. Saturday night marked the first Autograph Saturday of the 2019 season. Players filled the College Station Ford Courtyard at Bombers Stadium postgame to mingle with fans and sign autographs. The Bombers are hosting Autograph Saturday after each Saturday home game this season, sponsored by Gold’s Gym. The next Autograph Saturday will be held on July 6. The Twins fall to 8-5. The Bombers take their show on the road Sunday for their first game of the season against the Victoria Generals to see who can wrest control of the number one spot in the league. “They are always traditionally a very tough team,” said Manager Brian Nelson. “They’re always going to be in the top of the standings every year. We’re expecting a battle for four straight days. It’ll be tough, but I do believe that at the end of it, we’ll be in a good position.” For tickets and information on how to see the Bombers 2019 season, please call (979) 779-PLAY, or go to www.bvbombers.com.
