Bombers Bring Back Coaching Staff for 2019 Season

Bryan/College Station, Texas – November 14, 2018 -The Brazos Valley Bombers are thrilled to announce that Manager Brian Nelson and his entire staff will return for the 2019 Summer season. Re-joining Coach Nelson will be pitching coach James Dillard, bench coach Chase Sanford and first base coach Jake Nash.

Manager Brian Nelson returns to the helm after leading the Bombers to 34 wins and their 7thconsecutive regular season championship. Although the 2018 Bombers broke multiple team records and won a lot of games, the season ended in disappointment. Coach Nelson believes the first step to returning to the Texas Collegiate League (TCL) championship starts with his coaching staff, “we accomplished a lot of goals we set for ourselves last season, but we fell short of the big one. Bringing Dillard, Sanford and Nash back was my number one priority this off-season. Their leadership and daily work ethic had a true positive impact on our players, myself and the organization”.

Bombers pitching coach and Bryan High School head coach, James Dillard, returns after guiding the Bombers pitching staff to the top of nearly every significant TCL pitching statistic including positing a 3.04 ERA and tallying over 500 strikeouts while surrendering only 204 walks. When asked about returning to the Bombers, Coach Dillard had this to say, “I’m thankful and excited to be back with this first-class organization. Having the entire staff back gives us a sense of familiarity that will pay dividends for us throughout the summer. We fell short of our goal to win the TCL this past summer, but I still feel like the road to the championship goes through the Brazos Valley. With a great organization like the Bombers and a Manager like Coach Nelson we have a chance every summer to win a TCL championship”.

Rudder High School Head Baseball Coach Chase Sanford is returning as the Bombers bench coach for his 2ndseason. Coach Nelson commented saying, “Coach Sanford is our X factor, what he brings to our team really is immeasurable. His experience and knowledge make him a great resource for our players and their development during the summer.”

After a season of helping guide the Bombers offense towards numerous broken records, including stolen bases and home runs, assistant coach Jake Nash will return as the Bombers first base coach. Currently, Nash serves on the coaching staff at Lamar University but is excited about his return with the Bombers saying, “Being a part of the Bombers staff has been amazing. I’m so excited to be coming back with an opportunity to finish what we started”.

“As a staff, we feel we have unfinished business and something to prove” says Coach Nelson. “We are fortunate to be given the opportunity to accomplish our goals and I believe that together we have the right group of men to get the job done”.
