Calabuig's Hot Night Powers Bombers to Victory
Youngsville, Louisiana (August 10, 2017) - Bombers move within one win of chlinching their 5th straight TCL title after defeating the Acadiana Cane Cutters 7-4 on the road in Game 1.
The Bombers set the tone early with a 3-run top of the 1st inning thanks to a Michael Helman double, a Thomas Jeffries single, a Jared Mang single, and a Chandler Morris double to put the Bombers up 3-0.
After that, Michael Mokma was able to settle down with a bit of run support, going 7 innings, allowing only 1 ER, 4 Ks, 1 BB, and 7 H.
Jermayne Ward tacked on another run with an RBI double in the bottom of the 4th inning, scoring Morris who was 2-2 on the night.
Reid Morgan entered into the ballgame in the 8th and earned the save, but not until after Chase Calabuig lifted a ball over the right-field wall for a 3-run homer in the 9th as well.
In the bottom of the 9th, the Cane Cutters battled back to make it a 7-4 game, before Morgan was able to shut the door and record the final out.
With the win, the Bombers return home for Game 2, and a chance to clinch the title at Nutrabolt Stadium on Friday night at 7:05pm. Tune into the Bombers Live Pregame show on Willy 1550 and Radioaggieland.com starting at 6:45pm.
