Bryan-College Station, Texas (April 3, 2017)- The Brazos Valley Bombers announced today that they will be adding Brett Thornell to the bench as an assistant coach. Thornell has a strong baseball history and is looking forward to bringing his experience back to the Brazos Valley.

Thornell started his college career at Texas A&M University. He appeared in 8 games for the Aggies and was a part of the team which earned a berth to the College World Series. Brett then transferred to McLennan Community College where he played in 49 games hitting .315 with 12 doubles and 18 RBI’s on the season for the Highlanders.

Thornell found his groove after transferring to SFA. As a junior, he appeared in 48 games making 31 starts and served as a team captain for two years. In 2014, Thornell made appearances in every game for the Lumberjack’s. Thornell led the team in batting average to finish out his senior year.

Brett began his coaching career as an assistant for SFA’s program from 2015 to 2016. He spent most his time working with hitters and infielders as well as developing the bullpen staff. During the 2016 season the Lumberjacks earned a berth to the Southland Conference Tournament and finished 3rd overall.

Thornell currently serves as the assistant coach at Central Heights High School where they are currently ranked 3rd in the state according to the TABC coaches poll. They have a season record of 18-1-1. Brett spends his time developing the hitters and infielders. Thornell says he is looking forward to getting back into the college aspect of the game and is excited to work with talented college athletes from all over the country.
