Walk-Off Win Gives Bombers 2015 Regular-Season Championship

Bombers Strike Out Cancer and Generals For Series Sweep

Bryan-College Station, TX (July 29, 2015) - After a series-opening victory against the Victoria Generals, the Bombers came into Wednesday night’s game looking to complete the sweep against the second-place Victoria Generals.

The Bombers held a 4-0 lead heading into the 7th inning, before allowing the Generals to score five runs; giving them a 5-4 lead. However, the Bombers showed great fortitude and bounced back with a perfect bunt by Mark Whitehead to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 9th, followed by a walk by Matt Hilston to tie the game, and a wild pitch scoring Geonte Jackson for a 6-5 walk-off win in front of a raucous and electric Cellucor Field crowd Wednesday night.

Following the walk-off victory on Tuesday night, the Bombers’ record now stands at 37-8 overall and 18-4 in the second half. The victory also gives the Bombers the 2015 TCL Regular-Season Championship and extends the Bombers second-half lead over Victoria to three games.

Wednesday night was Strike Out Cancer Night, sponsored by St. Joseph’s Health System. At the end of the 5th inning, cancer survivors walked the bases to a standing ovation by the Cellucor Field. Wednesday was also Weenie Wednesday, with 90 cent hot dogs to celebrate Citizen’s State Bank’s 90th Anniversary.

The Bombers will be on the road over the next seven days at the Woodlands Strykers, East Texas Pump Jacks, and Acadiana Cane Cutters before returning home next Thursday, August 6 for Spirit Night, presented by Rattler’s; and Thirsty Thursday, when beer, soft drinks, and margaritas are one dollar all night long, thanks to Western Beverages. The Bombers’ opponent during the August 6 and 7 homestand will be the East Texas Pump Jacks.
