Bryan-College Station, TX (June 21, 2014) – The Brazos Valley Bombers (16-5) defeated the Texas Marshals (4-16) 6-1 Saturday night, extending their win streak to four.
The Bombers got on the board in the bottom of the second after right fielder Dane Steinhagen cracked a triple over the center fielder’s head to drive in third baseman Hunter Hagler and first baseman Grady Caldwell. Appearing in the lineup for the first time since June 15, Steinhagen went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in his return.
“I had a couple days off, so I came back and my body was rested,” Steinhagen said. “I worked on my swing during batting practice—trying to fix old habits—and I felt good coming in today.”
Starting pitcher Cody Brannon out of the University of Texas-San Antonio held the Marshals to just one run on three hits in six innings. Relief pitchers Andre Shewcraft and Eric Polivka gave up no hits in their three combined innings, as the Bombers would go on to improve their record against the Marshals to 3-0 on the year.
The Bombers will look to end their four game home stand undefeated Sunday night against the Marshals at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. Sunday’s game will feature Baseball Bingo presented by Brazos Bingo, where fans can play bingo and win prizes while following the action on the field.
