Bombers Add Six Out-of-State SEC Players for the 2014 Season

Bryan-College Station, TX (May 19, 2014) – The Bombers add top talent from college baseball's premier conference as they gear up to defend their 2013 National Championship.

The Brazos Valley Bombers look to bolster their lineup by adding six current and future SEC players to their lineup.

The "six-pack" of signees is headed by current Arkansas Razorbacks KJ Wilkerson and Lawson Vassar.

Wilkerson, a 6-foot-2, 220 pound junior who plays both catcher and outfield, posted a .253 average in 87 at-bats for the Razorbacks this season with a .343 on base percentage.

Vassar, a 6-foot-3, 195 pound freshman right-handed pitcher out of Little Rock, Ark., redshirted his first year as a Razorback but was a two-time All-State player in high school. Vassar also earned the Arkansas 5A state tournament Most Outstanding Player award after throwing a complete shutout in the state championship game.

A trio of JUCO Arkansas commits in Tucker Pennell, Trenton Hill, and Cannon Chadwick, will have the opportunity to play with their future Razorback teammates this summer with the Bombers before joining Wilkerson and Vassar in Fayetteville this fall.

Pennell batted .305 with 21 RBI's in his sophomore season at Temple College and will add depth to the Bombers' catcher position.

Hill offers versatility to the Bombers' squad, as he batted .409 with 56 RBI's and 14 stolen bases as a utility player in addition to posting a 4.48 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 54.2 innings of work as a pitcher in his sophomore season at Metropolitan Community College - Maple Woods in Kansas City, Mo.

Chadwick, a right-handed pitcher from Paris Community College, recorded a 1.14 ERA with 68 strikeouts in his freshman season in 71 innings of work and will make a nice addition to the Bombers’ bullpen where he will serve a key role as a setup-man and/or closer.

The outlier of the Razorback-centric group is first baseman Jack Kaiser, who will travel to Oxford, Miss. in the fall to play ball for the Ole Miss Rebels.

Kaiser’s sophomore season at Alvin Community College in Alvin, Texas was highly productive. His 179 at-bats resulted in a .335 batting average and a team high 44 RBI’s—production that Kaiser will look to continue during summer ball.

The Bombers’ are confident that adding SEC talent to their roster will help them in their pursuit of repeating as Texas Collegiate League Champions.

The Bombers start their season on the road against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on May 29th. Opening day is June 3rd versus the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
