TCL Back to Back Coach of the Year Returns to the Bombers

TCL Back to Back Coach of the Year Returns to the Bombers

Bryan-College Station, TX (March 19, 2014) – Baseball fans, sports enthusiasts, and residents of the Brazos Valley should be excited to hear that the National Championship winning coach is returning for the 2014 season. Coach Curt Dixon and his two new assistant coaches, Clay Cox and Tyler Gillum, are looking to win back to back Texas Collegiate League Championships for the first time in league history.

Last season The Brazos Valley Bombers finished at the pinnacle of collegiate baseball by being voted the Perfect Game National Champions and claiming the Texas Collegiate League Championship.

“It was an incredible season of baseball,” said Uri Geva, the Bombers proud majority owner. “We accomplished our original goal of winning the TCL Championship and were thrilled when we heard about the National Championship.”

Coach Dixon is elated to return to the Brazos Valley Bombers and even more excited for a chance to win back-to-back Texas Collegiate League Championships. Although no Texas Collegiate League team has ever won back-to-back championship, Coach Dixon is coming into this season with that goal in mind, saying, “I really believe the dedication of our players, and the support of our fans will give us a chance to compete for another TCL championship this season.”

Since Coach Dixon’s first summer in 2012, the Bombers have continued to see success the last two seasons, posting a record of 39-21 and 46-14. Finishing in the Perfect Game National Rankings for both seasons, Coach Dixon’s continual dedication to the program and the players has created incredible excitement for the 2014 season.

New Assistant Coach, Clay Cox is a current member of the coaching staff at the University of West Alabama and is thrilled to be joining a team with such high aspirations.  As a class of 2008 graduate from Texas A&M, Cox’s roots do not spread too far from the Bombers. Cox excitedly awaits for the season, stating, “I can’t wait to be back in the Brazos Valley because there is no other place like it, and I’m looking forward to coaching for the Bombers.”

Current Southern Mountain Community College coach, Tyler Gillum will be the Bombers’ third base coach and hitting instructor this summer. Gillum will spend his first summer in Texas despite the fact that his coaching career has led him to travel throughout the country. Coach Dixon looks forward to coaching with Gillum, quoting, “I believe Gillum’s previous experience with the Myrtle Beach League in South Carolina will bring new strengths to the Bombers that we previously haven’t seen.”

As the Bombers staff starts preparing for the season, exciting things are sure to come. Between the chances to become the first team in the TCL to win back-to-back championships, the triumphant return of Coach Dixon, and the promising new assistant coaches, 2014 is guaranteed to be an exciting year for the Bombers.
