The Brazos Valley Bombers finally got to play a game on their road trip on Monday night, grabbing a bus to Weatherford to visit the Wranglers. In retrospect, they might have preferred to stay home.
After rain postponed a doubleheader in Duncanville on Saturday and Sunday’s game in Mineral Wells, the Bombers took the field Monday night and were shut out by Weatherford, 8-0.
The Wranglers jumped on Bombers starter Cody Curry (1-1) for two runs in the first inning and never looked back. They extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning, but it wasn’t until the late innings that the game was put out of reach.
Unfortunately, the Brazos Valley offense never quite got going. The Bombers managed just three hits – doubles from Mark McGonigle and Will Basom, and a single from Joseph Towns.
After Curry surrendered two runs over four innings and Clint Helms gave up a run in the fifth, Adam Albright made his Bombers debut and pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
The Bombers have a day off on Tuesday before returning home for games on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday is Radio Alegria Night with the Bombers, as Brazos Valley hosts the Denton Outlaws with the help of Radio Alegria AM 1240. Weatherford’s visit to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Thursday marks the second Bombers Thirsty Thursday of the season, featuring 50-cent 16-ounce soft drinks and one dollar 12-ounce draft beers, sponsored by Jack FM.
