After a rough start to the weekend with a defeat in extra innings, the Bombers came back on Sunday ready to take down the PumpJacks. The Brazos Valley mound controlled the game by serving up eleven strikeouts with only four hits and no runs.
The Bombers got the game going in the top of the second inning when third baseman Hunter Melton reached first on a single, advanced on a walk, then was brought home on a single hit by center fielder Graham McIntyre.
With the 1-0 lead, pitcher Bryce Rutherford continued to deliver the pain from the mound with a combination of five strikeouts in the third through sixth innings. In the top of the seventh the Bombers extended their lead by one when designated hitter Herb Romero got on base and was able to cross the plate on a double by second baseman Patrick McLendon.
Pitcher Jason Freeman took the mound in the ninth to earn the save for the Bombers with two strikeouts. Rutherford earned the win with nine strikeouts in eight innings and only three hits and two walks.
