Bombers Keep Rolling Towards Playoffs
Bombers Keep Rolling Towards Playoffs The Bombers tonight played their final home game of the 2012 campaign tonight in front of a large crowd on hand at American Momentum Bank Ballpark, which included a special pregame recognition of the Host Families for their support during the season . The Bombers welcomed back Damien Rivera and had an all around outstanding game in the 12-1 victory. Right fielder Chris Florack would score the first run of the game on a ground ball hit by Center fielder Jacob Rice which was misplayed by the second baseman. Rice would score the second run of the inning, when he came to the plate on a single from Designated Hitter Bobby Butvin. Wharton would lead off the second inning by hitting a single and then score on a single by Left fielder Brandon Wood. After Wood stole second base he would score on another single from Butvin. The Bombers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the inning, Wharton would hit a single. The next batter Third baseman Brennyn Smith would also single. Wood would then step to the plate and draw a walk. Butvin would then draw a bases loaded walk that scored Wharton. With Shortstop Nick Smelser at the plate, he would knock a single, but both Smith and Wood would score because of an error. In the sixth inning, the Bombers would once again score three runs. Brad Porras would lead off the inning by drawing a walk. Kevin Knapp, who came into the game for Wood would come to the plate and line a single. Porras would then score on Butvin’s third single of the night. With the next batter, Nick Smelser at the plate Knapp would score on a double lined off of Smelser’s bat. Butvin would score the final run of the inning on a wild pitch with Second baseman Adam Pena at the plate. The Bombers would score one run each in the seventh and eighth innings to get the 12 runs. Damien Rivera, who rejoined the Bombers tonight, had a solid night on the mound against the Strykers. Rivera pitched the first five innings striking out six while walking four. Logan Burch then would come in to pitch both the sixth and seventh innings and recorded one strikeout during the time. Franco Pace came in to pitch the eighth, and Nick Johnson came in for the ninth inning and struck out two batters. The Bombers were helped out by the defense who made great plays at the right time to help the pitching staff remain in control during the ball game. The Bombers now head to Allen High School where they will take on the Marshals tomorrow night to close out the regular season. The Bombers will play in Victoria on Sunday for the opening round of the TCL Playoffs! |
