Bombers Plow Through The Generals 12-6

The Bombers kept their winning ways going tonight in the second game of a three game home stand against the Victoria Generals. The Bombers once again put forth a great team effort in route to a 12-6 victory over the Generals.

For the offense tonight for the Bombers, the runs came for the most part in bunches. The Bombers scored four in the third, five in the fourth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth. Center fielder Chris Florack got the third inning started for the Bombers. Florack led off with a single to left field, then moved to second on a single hit by Shortstop Corey Toups. Florack would come home on a double to leftfield by First baseman James Wharton. Second baseman Brennyn Smith would hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Toups. After Brandon Wood drew a walk, both Wood and Wharton would score on a ground ball hit by Nick Smelser that was mishandled by the General shortstop. Florack would once again start the fourth inning for the Bombers which turned out to be a big inning for the Bombers. Florack was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and then Toups was safe after laying down a bunt. Both runners were able to move up on a passed ball while Catcher Myles Parma was at the plate. Parma would go on to draw a walk. First baseman James Wharton would step to the plate and draw a bases loaded walk that scored Florack. Brennyn Smith would step up to the plate and also draw a walk that scored Toups. The runs kept coming as Brandon Wood came to the plate and ripped a single to left field that scored Myles Parma. Wharton would come home and score on a single by Nick Smelser. The final run of the inning was scored by Smith who was able to come to the plate after a sacrifice fly from Jacob Rice. Florack would lead off the seventh inning with a single and would come home to score the first run of the inning by an error by the General catcher. Toups would score the second run on a fielders choice hit by Brennyn Smith. The one run in the eighth was scored by Smelser who led the inning off with a single. Smelser came home on a sac fly from Toups.

Andrew Godail started on the mound tonight for the Bombers. Godail pitched the first 4.2 innings. He struck out three batters, walked four and allowed three earned runs. Logan Burch then came in and pitched 1.1 innings before giving way to Derek Mazzio. Mazzio came in and pitched the seventh and eighth innings giving up a run and striking one batter out. . Nick Johnson was the final pitcher of the night who gave up just one hit in the ninth.

The Bombers made nice plays throughout the game. In the first inning with the bases loaded, First baseman, James Wharton fielded a ball, then stepped on first for one out then fired home to Catcher Matt Smith for an inning ending double play. Another play was nice 4-6-3 double play started by Brennyn Smith at second who had help from Toups at short and Wharton at first. Another great play was made towards the end of the game on a nice play by Nick Smelser at third to snag a ball out of the air that was destined for the outfield.

The Bombers conclude the home stand with the second game of the game series with the Generals tomorrow. The game is Spirit Night by PowerSports and also a Kids Free Saturday compliments of Chicken Express!
