Bombers Head Home to Face Pump Jacks

The Bombers closed out their series with the Acadiana Cane Cutters tonight. The Bombers were glad to have Brad Vachon back on the mound tonight after he has been out with an injury. The Bombers put forth a great team effort tonight as they beat the Cane Cutters 5-4

The Bombers scored their first run in the first inning. Center fielder Chris Florack led the game off with a single to center field. Florack was moved to second on a bunt from shortstop Nick Smelser. Florack would come to the plate on a ball hit to right field by James Wharton which was ruled an error by the Cane Cutter first baseman. The Bombers’ second run came in the second on a RBI double that was stroked to left center field by Wharton that scored Florack who got on base with another single earlier in the inning. The Bombers scored twice in the top of the seventh inning. Designated Kevin Knapp was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Florack came to the plate and  drew a walk, then shortstop Nick Smelser was safe at first after dropping a bunt. Brennyn Smith hit a grounder to second that scored Knapp. The second run was scored by Florack after a balk was called on the Cane Cutter pitcher.  The Bombers would add another run in the eighth. Jacob Rice led the inning off with an infield single and came home to score on a ball hit by Catcher Myles Parma that was muffed for an error by the Cane Cutter shortstop.

Brad Vachon made the start tonight for the Bombers. Vachon, who is coming off an injury pitched the first five inning while limiting the Cane Cutters to two hits while striking out three batters. Logan Burch came into the game in the sixth inning. Franco Pace came in to pitch both the  seventh and eighth innings and in the two innings struck out three batters.  Adam Davis came in to pitch the ninth inning. Davis had to work with runners on base, but with two outs he was able to get a strikeout to seal the victory.

Brennyn Smith made a nice play to make an out in the second inning. Smith ran after a ball hit by Mike Barba of the Cane Cutters and made a remarkable over the shoulder catch all while falling down . Logan Burch made a nice play by throwing to Shea Pierce at second after a Cane Cutter was caught napping. Burch threw to Pierce who chased down the runner for the out.
