Bombers Beat Cane Cutters Twice

Bombers Beat Cane Cutters Twice

The Bombers played the Acadiana Cane Cutters twice today. The teams finished playing the game from last week, and then the two played a regular scheduled nine inning game. The Bombers won the first one 8-0 and the regular game 4-3.

In the first game, Nick Goza pitched the final two and two third innings. Goza struck out five Cane Cutters. The offense did not score any more runs in the 8-0 win.

The Bombers offense was alive in the second game. In the first inning, Center fielder Chris Florack was hit by a pitch. He would come home to score on a left field single by Third baseman Brennyn Smith. The Bombers second run came in the second inning on a solo homerun down the left field line by Shortstop Nick Smelser. The third run would come home in the fourth inning. Smelser would hit a double to left center that scored designated hitter Bobby Butvin who got on in the inning by hitting a double as well. The game went into extra innings as the Cane Cutters tied the game up at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth. The Bombers were able to score the go ahead run in the top of the 10th inning on a passed ball that scored Florack who got on the base paths by drawing a walk.

Luis Dejesus started on the mound tonight for the Bombers. Dejesus pitched seven and two third inning while throwing 97 pitches and striking out three batters. Andrew Hohn came in and pitched to one batter to end the eight inning. Nick Johnson came in and pitched the final two innings and struck a batter out to end the game in the bottom of the 10th.  Dejesus was named the H&R Block Never Settle For Less Player of the Game.

Brennyn Smith made a nice play at third. He fielded a ground ball with one hand, then did a complete spin and made a strong throw to James Wharton at first to retire a batter. Another play was a nice stop by Shea Pierce who actually rolled a couple of times after fielding a ground ball but was able to come to his feet and make a strong throw to Wharton for an out.

The Bombers finish their series with the Cane Cutters tomorrow at 7:05. The Bombers then head home to face the East Texas Pump Jacks on Tuesday evening at American Momentum Bank Ballpark. The game will be a $2 Tuesday with $2 Tickets, Beer, Soda Hot Dogs and More! The game is scheduled for 7:05.
