Bombers Bases Loaded Rally Falls Short

Bombers Bases Loaded Rally Falls Short

The Brazos Valley Bombers continued their three game homestand tonight by playing the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The Bombers had a nice night at the plate pounding out five runs, but the Cane Cutters had two more in the end to take the game 7-5.

The Bombers scored two runs in the first inning. After leadoff hitter Chris Florack hit a single to right field, right fielder Myles Parma was called safe at home on a drag bunt. After they moved up to second and third, shortstop Nick Smelser hit a double to left field that scored both Florack and Parma. The Bombers managed one run in the third inning. After left fielder Brandon Wood hit a single to center field, he came home to score on a double down the left field line by third baseman Brennyn Smith. The Bombers fourth run came in the seventh inning when first baseman James Wharton, who got on base with a single to left, came home to score on a single to right center. The Bombers’ final run would come in the ninth inning rally. With the bases full of Bombers, first baseman James Wharton drew a walk that scored Florack. The Bombers could not score any more however, and fell short tonight in front of an always supporting crowd.

Right hander Blake Bagley started on the mound for the Bombers. He pitched the first 4.1 innings of the game. Derek Mazzio then came into the game and pitched 2.2 innings. Nick Johnson would pitch one inning, before Montgomery native, Logan Burch would come in the pitch the final inning.

One of the best plays during the evening was made by the Bombers defense. When the Cane Cutters had runners in scoring position, third baseman Brennyn Smith charged a bunch hard, and was able to field the ball and toss it to a covering Nick Smelser at third for the out. Another nice play was made by Logan Burch who had to backtrack to field a chopper over the mound and get it to Wharton at first for the out.

The Bombers conclude the home stand tomorrow night against the Victoria Generals. The games promotion is 80’s night sponsored by the District on Luther and Thirsty Thursday with $1 beer & soft drinks courtesy of Western Beverages! Come out and support the Bombers as they look to take down the Generals before heading on the road to close out the first month of Bombers Baseball!  For tickets visit bvbombers.com or call (979)779-PLAY!
