Bombers Get Back on the Winning Side in Victoria

The Bombers made the journey down to Victoria after a tough loss this past Saturday to East Texas. Brandon Bergen made the start for the Bombers and he was able to get some help in the field as the Bombers teamed up to earn a 3-1 victory at Riverside Stadium.

The Bombers went down 1-2-3 in the first two innings, but in the third, left fielder Quinton Urban had a leadoff double and would come to the plate to score the first run on a double by catcher Kevin Lamb. The Bombers scored twice in the fifth inning. Urban once again hit a leadoff double. He advanced to third on a groundout by Lamb. Second baseman Shea Pierce drew a walk. Center fielder Jordan Hamerman then hit a fielder's choice that allowed Urban to come home to make the score score 2-0. Right fielder Myles Parma then came to the plate and smacked a double that scored Hammerman making the score 3-0.

Bergen started the ballgame and pitched six shutout innings. Brandon recorded three strikeouts. In the seventh inning, Derrick Mazzio came in and allowed no runs. Ryan Ulman came into the game in the eighth inning and recorded three strikeouts. Franco Pace came in to pitch the ninth, but with a bases loaded jam, Coach Dixon brought in Nick Johnson who was able to get a General to roll over on a pitch that went to Pierce who made the flip to shortstop Nick Smelser securing the 3-1 victory and setting up a rematch between these two teams tomorrow night at 7:05. Both Bergen and Johnson were named the H&R Block Never Settle For Less Players of the Game.

The pitching staff was helped out by great plays defensively. Third baseman Brennyn Smith made a couple in the game. One of them was snagging a ball out the air for an out, and the other was a nice back hand stop then making the throw to first for the out. In the bottom of the fourth first baseman Brad Porras was able to record an out with a nice over the shoulder catch in foul territory. Bergen made two nice plays himself while on the mound. His first was when he snagged a ball out of the air then made the throw to first, and the other was made on a straight shot back at him where Brandon fell down, but managed to recover and get the ball to first for the out.
