Bombers Keep the Streak alive with a Walk off Spectacular
The families that filled American Momentum Bank Ballpark for the Kids Free Saturday presented by Chicken Express were treated to a phenominal game between the Bombers and Generals, that ended with a
walkoff in grand fasion by third baseman and returning Bomber, Brennyn Smith.
The offense for the Bombers was textbook again. In the second inning, after walks to center fielder Chris Florack and designated hitter Myles Parma, the bases became loaded after a single by Brandon Wood. The Bombers got on the scoreboard after a groundout by first baseman Bobby Butvin that scored Florack. The second run would come when a wild pitch would bring Parma home. The last run of the inning would be scored by Wood on a groundout by catcher Braden Mattson. The Bombers got back on the scoreboard when Mattson sent a pitch for a single to center field that would score Parma who led the inning off with a single to right field. Brandon Wood, who got on base on the error by the Generals pitcher, came home to score on a single to center field by the short stop Nick Smelser. After the Generals took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 9th, the Bombers offense came to the plate. After a walk to Mattson, Nick Smelser had an eight pitch at bat that resulted in a ticket to first base on ball four. Then the crowd erupted as Smith belted a General pitch to left field that scored both Mattson and Smelser propelling the Bombers to their seventh consecutive victory.
The pitching staff was led by starter and Tulsa native Mason Justice, who pitched 5 full innings. Andre Hohn, Derek Mazzio, and Nathan Sorenson were the other pitchers. Mazzio pitched two innings before Sorenson came into the came. The pitching staff was helped by great defensive plays. The defense turned two double plays on the evening. The first was in the top of the second. A General hit a ground ball to second baseman Shea Pierce who then flipped to Smelser who threw to Butvin. The other was a 5-4-3 started by Smith who tossed to Pierce who hurled to Butvin for the out. Perhaps the best defensive gem happened when a ball from Sorenson got past Mattson and went all the way to the back stop. Mattson then hurried to retrieve the ball as a General runner took off for home. Mattson was able to fire the ball to a covering Sorenson who applied the tag which prevented a run from scoring.
The Bombers look to continue their winning streak. They will head to Alexandria for a Monday night game at 7:05 before heading to McKinney for two games next Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bombers return home next Thursday for a two game set with McKinney. The Thursday game is Thirsty Thursday brought to the fans by Western Beverages featuring $1 beer and soft drinks.
