Bombers Make it Six in a Row with Grand Slam Style
What an amazing night at American Momentum Bank Ballpark. Stands were packed with Bombers' fans taking in a Family Friday courtesy of the George Bush Presidential Library. To top off the spetacular night, fans were then treated to an extravagent fireworks show both postgame compliments of Fedstar Credit Union.
The Bombers kept their winning ways alive with winning their sixth consecutive ballgame. Their offense was in a groove tonight using small ball and then big plays to break the game open. In the bottom of
the second, third baseman Nick Smelser was allowed to move to second base after an error by Pumpjack shortstop Logan Davis. H&R Block Never Settle for Less Player of the Game, catcher Braden Mattson
started his evening off with a single to right field that platted Smelser. Right fielder Myles Parma then followed with a single to right field of his own. Mattson then scored one batter later as Brad Porras got into the hitting
parade with a single to right center field. In the bottom of the third the Bomber offense would get two more singles from designated hitter Bobby Butvin and catcher Mattson, making Mattson 2 for 2 in the game. The offense came out swinging in the 4th inning. After another Pump Jack miscue firstbaseman Brad Porras remained safe at first. After a walk to second baseman Adam Pena, Left fielder Brandon Wood collected his first Bomber hit, a standup double that scored both Pena and centerfielder Jordan Hammerman. With 2 outs in the inning and bases loaded, Bombers catcher, Braden Mattson hit a grand slam over the leftfield wall that propelled the lead to 8-1 creating an atmosphere the Bombers' fans will never forget.
The Bombers defense showed their skills and strength again tonight, showcasing how tough it will be to put up runs against the Bombers. Center fielder, Jordan Hammerman, had the defensive highlight of the night in the 4th inning, with a phenominal over the shoulder catch. In the top of 5th, third baseman Nick Smelser snatched a foul ball over the fence to record another Pump Jack out. Shortstop Shea Pierce, added to the Bombers defensive strengths with a leaping grab to prevent a Pump Jack hit.
The pitching staff was eficient once again. Lefty Damian Rivera pitched a solid six innings. In the seventh inning, the bullpen came in. Franco Pace, from Texas A&M Corpus Christi pitched an excellent inning, recording a 1-2-3 pitch strikeout to lead off the inning then followed with a strike out of Pumpjack Shortstop Davis. Sidearm reliever Nick Johnson recorded on strikeout in his inning of work. Bryan native, and Concordia University Junior Ryan Ullman pitched the ninth inning and fanned one Pumpjack and forced a pop fly to end the game and keep the Bombers winning streak intact.
