Bombers New Look Sparks Team to Win Over AcesThe Bombers got a dominating effort on the mound en route to a 5-2 win over the Alexandria Aces. Fans picked up their fifth Angry Birds Bobblehead as Bombers pitcher Randy Mann threw a complete game. Coming off a rough stretch of play, many of the Bombers were seen sporting handlebar moustaches that they referred to as Randall Handles. The new look may catch on, as Mann was among the players sporting the facial hair. The Bombers started things off in the first inning when Jacob House brought Scott Arthur home with a single. The Aces would tie the score at one run apiece in the top of the 3rd inning, but the Bombers were quick to answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. The Bombers left-handed starter took it from there, allowing just one earned run on the day while striking out seven Aces. With his performance, he could be in line to become the Bombers fourth straight TCL Pitcher of the Week. Other notable performers for the team include the aforementioned House, who went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Herb Romero went 1-for-4 with a run scored, a run batted in, and a walk. While the Bombers performance was stellar on the field, the team noticeably missed the steady production of announcer Damon Slaydon, who is currently on strike. The teams mascot, KaBoom, was set to fill in for Slaydon, but couldnt stop laughing. He was pulled after the 1st inning, when one of the Bombers interns came on in relief. Owner Uri Geva has announced that he plans to step behind the microphone tomorrow night. Honestly, its not that hard of a job, Geva said. Meanwhile, Slaydon is nearing a deal with the East Texas Pump Jacks for their announcers post. Despite the rocky performance in the announcers chair tonight, Geva is holding firmly to his stance. Im not worried about Damon signing with the Pump Jacks, Geva said. Honestly, if he thinks its better over there, then he can leave. But I should mention that the Pump Jacks dont have Lavco air conditioning in their press box like we do, nor do they have a full-service bathroom like Damon has been requesting. With KaBooms foray into the press box resulting in disaster, the abundance of alternatives to Slaydon look much less appealing. The Bombers will be back at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark tomorrow night to finish their series against the Aces. The game will be Back to College Night at the ballpark, brought to you by The District on Luther, and will feature a koozie giveaway to the first 250 fans in the park. It will also be another Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, with $1 beers and soft drinks all night long. The Bombers will then host the Acadiana Cane Cutters for the weekend series, which will consist of Aggie Night, featuring appearances by athletes from Texas A&M University, as well as a bobblehead giveaway of Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com. Saturdays game will be Faith Night at the ballpark, with a pre-game performance by the band Crosswind. Tickets start at just $5, and can be purchased at the gate, or online at www.bvbombers.com |
