Fans Celebrate KaBoom’s Birthday as Bombers Drop Series Finale

The Bombers fell to the Cane Cutters 3-2 in a tightly contested game. The Bombers treated fans to KaBoom bobbleheads in the latest of the Bobble-mania giveaway series this season.

Both of the games starting pitchers struggled with their command on the evening, as each walked five hitters. Jake Moser of the Bombers and Andrew Adams of the Cane Cutters had nearly identical pitching lines, each throwing five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs and walking five each.

Moser was able to escape jams in the 1st and 2nd innings unscathed, but allowed a run in the 5th and the 6th innings before being pulled for reliever Josh Dean. Dean pitched well on the evening, but ran in to some trouble in the 8th when the Cane Cutters strung together two hits. Michael Barba of Acadiana hit a ground ball to the shortstop, but Brennyn Smith overthrew first baseman Jacob House, allowing the go-ahead run to score.

The Bombers employed the “small-ball” tactic to manufacture runs early on, utilizing a pair of singles, a walk and some sacrifice hits to score their first runs of the game in the 3rd inning. They forced some late-inning drama in the 9th inning, loading the bases and looking menacing at the plate, but Acadiana right fielder Andrew Miller was able to settle under Scott Arthur’s deep fly ball and record the final out of the game.

In other news, owner Uri Geva and announcer Damon Slaydon have walked away from the negotiation table. Rumor around the ballpark is that Geva is prepared to lock out the voice of the Bombers if he doesn’t lower his asking price. After a day of negotiations, Geva expressed his disappointment that Slaydon would try to negotiate a new contract mid-season, while Slaydon doesn’t think the extra Chicken Express Sweet Tea would affect his bladder control and ability to call the game. Hopefully the sides can come to a conclusion soon, as Slaydon is quite the talent.

The Bombers will take Sunday off before returning to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Monday to take on the Victoria Generals in a two game series. Monday night will be Community Appreciate Night at the ballpark, where the Bombers will honor a number of local non-profit organizations that spend their time making the Brazos Valley a better place. It will also be Monday Feast, featuring 50-cent hot dogs, peanuts, and popcorn. You’ll want to wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt to Beach Night on Tuesday Night, featuring a beach ball giveaway for fans. It’s also another Movie Ticket Tuesday, with a movie ticket giveaway.
