Past and Present Bombers Excelling on the Field

The Bombers recent winning streak wasn't the only positive thing the Bombers had going for them in the past week. Today the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards were revealed, and the Bombers saw their names garnish these awards, as Trey Porras was named Player of the Week, and Alec Mills was given Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Though Porras just arrived to the Bombers last week, his presence was quickly felt across the Texas Collegiate League. When the big left handed hitter joined the Bombers, he was quickly inserted into the #3 spot in the lineup, and it doesn't look like he's moving out anytime soon. He was 9 for 20, which totaled a .450 batting average. Along with the 9 hits, he drove in 2 Bombers, scored 7 times, and stole a base. He will look to continue this torrid pace this week, as the Bombers have two crucial series with the Coppell Copperheads and Alexandria Aces, and could make a move to the top of the TCL standings.

While Porras pulled in the Player of the Week Award, he wasn't the only Bomber to receive recognition as Alec Mills received Co-Pitcher of the Week.

When Alec Mills toed the rubber versus the Victoria Generals you could tell he was locked in. Mills used his 6'4 frame to control the strike zone and keep the Generals off balance all game.

While Mills won't blow you away with his fastball, he's able to hit his spots consistently and his off-sped pitches allow him to rack up strikeouts as he did Tuesday night versus the Generals. Mills tossed 7 shutout innings against the Generals, surrendering two hits and just one run, which was earned. Throughout the 7 innings, Mills breaking ball was very effective and helped him rack up 10 strikeouts, a season high for a Bombers starting pitcher. His lone outing for the week helped him earn Pitcher of the Week, which he will share with East Texas' Jaden Dillion.

Elsewhere in Bomberland, former Bombers' pitcher Daniel Meadows has been promoted to the Nashville Sounds, the Milwaukee Brewers' Triple-A affiliate. The 6'6" lefty was dominating hitters at the Double-A level, posting an ERA of 1.70 and striking out nearly a batter per inning. If his performance at Double-A carries over to his new home in Nashville, Meadows could find himself in the major leagues very soon.

Best of luck to Daniel, and congratulations to Trey and Alec on their awards! The Bombers are on the road until next Monday, so be sure to tune into the games at www.bvbombers.com and support the team as they make their charge to the top spot in the TCL.
